A Therapeutic Evaluation is an intensive evaluation based on the therapeutic relationship between counselor and child. Differing from both a psychological assessment and a forensic evaluation where assessments, psychological testing and/or intensive questioning and interviewing are used, the information utilized to make recommendations are the client’s play behavior, play themes and verbal and nonverbal behavior directly observed during therapy sessions. It is useful for families who disagree about diagnosis, need for medication management and in cases where there have been numerous CPS reports and/or investigations that are concluded as unable to determine.
